Cotton and Alternative Crops Program, Southern Afghanistan

Project: Cotton and Alternative Crops Program

Location: Southern Afghanistan

Client: United States Agency for International Development (USAID)

Value: $12,525,682.00

Duration: 4 years

CADG worked in partnership with USAID to provide farmers in the region of Southern Afghanistan with an alternative crops program. Our responsibilities included:

  • Providing technical assistance to farmers
  • Conducting research on crop varieties.
  • Rehabilitation of processing facilities.
  • Identifying export markets for Afghanistan cotton.

One of the key highlights of our achievements was the successful rehabilitation of a local cotton factory that was previously inoperable. As a result of the improvements, the farmers were able to process and press cotton into internationally accepted standards.
